142,000 animals slaughtered as sacrifices to God

2 Chronicles 7:1-5 Solomon finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the LORD filled the temple. The priests could not enter the temple of the LORD because the glory of the LORD filled it. When all the Israelites saw the fire coming down and the glory of the LORD above the temple, they knelt on the pavement with their faces to the ground, and they worshiped and gave thanks to the LORD, saying,
"He is good;
his love endures forever."

Then the king and all the people offered sacrifices before the LORD. And King Solomon offered a sacrifice of twenty-two thousand head of cattle and a hundred and twenty thousand sheep and goats. So the king and all the people dedicated the temple of God.

PERSONAL COMMENTARY

Can you imagine the scene here with the killing of 142,000 head of cattle, sheep, and goats? The screams, the pain, and the blood would be overwhelming.

As I said in a previous blog, if I was God and had the ability to make the rules, I would not make a rule that required this much pain and suffering to animals. I would have been happy with Cain's sacrifice of the fruits of the soil.

What about the good points of the glory of the Lord filling the temple so that the priests could not even stand? That would have been overwhelming.

"[God] is good and his love endures forever."

I agree with Anon. There's so much focus on the negative, the postives are always ignored. I guess it's easier to attack then defend :)

Approx. 7 billion farm animals are killed each year for the production of food. If 142,000 dead animals is that big of a deal, please contact your local politician...

In all seriousness though, these animals were killed to dedicate the temple. It was literally a once in an eon event and the celebration and worship would have been done on a scale never seen before. Sacrifices to God are a recorded as being a "sweet smelling savour". Personally, I'd rather side with pleasing God then ensuring a goat lives a long and prosperous life.

As mentioned in the same previous blog, the shedding of blood was a fundamental requirement of the forgiveness of sins and a vital link to Jesus' sacrifice. No shedding of blood, no remission of sins. It is what it is.

It's truly insane that so many peops buy into this bible stuff. I mean, get real, how can anyone believe what the church and govt says the SAME day, let alone 2 thousand years ago!!!

This is brainwashing to the extreme. Peops who believe the craziness of the bible will believe anything that is programmed into their heads. VERY scary to say the least!

Quite the opposite. Because I believe in the Bible and consult it when faced with issues you CANNOT just tell me anything. I don't go wherever the wind blows me now because Christ is my foundation. Trust me, I know the govt lies and I was once so into conspiracies, but now I look to a higher purpose and I don't have to be fearful about what America is doing behind the scenes. If it doesn't line up with God's word, I know it's questionable. But in order to know God's word I must study, and in the meantime I can't condemn anyone. We are supposed to correct according to the Word of God in a loving way, doesn't mean I have to agree with you though. I just can't send you to hell. Only God can do that, and as long as you live you still have a chance to become saved so I can't know your final fate. Believe that Christ died for your sins and accept the gift of salvation.

I don't understand how people still think the bible has changed. this has been debated time and time again. we have evidence that shows this is not true, People may say well, the bible is a copy of a copy ext but when you look at the evidence it's astonishing to find that the Fundimantal messege of the Bible still remains the same. People think that it was Intire Manuscips were held and edited then published, this is nonsense they were nevere held all togather, they were sent all aroudn the world so that people could recieve the Messege that's why you see many virsions today. yes you can say there one differs from another, but that does not change the fact that it has the same messege as it did when it was first written. and we still have the original unchanged un currupt orignal manuscipts, dispite what you may think.

The end of this great feast is 142 days from Iyyar 27; the day God told Noah to go out from the ARK. God's comes out of the ARK and fills the temple after 142,000.

It amazes me that how arrogant people can be, and follow through with said arrogance with such conviction. "Hey this doesn't make sense to me, so this has to be stupid and wrong, based alone on the fact that that I can't make sense of it." It's like people aren't surrounded by people who can make since out of what you can't. Oh wait... we are, from the cradle to the grave. No consistent advance in understanding is achieved without gleaming information from those who see as common knowledge, what you see as illogical. From kindergarten, to high school, to your parents, your job, hobbies, or any other aspect of life.

This education comes from people often not too many years your senior. Now if God is all that the bible says he is, Omniscient for one, and infinitely more years your senior; Why on earth do you think everything He does is going to make sense to you. I've known my wife for 20 years and what she does still doesn't make sense to me. But you think that if the creator of the universe and eternity does something that doesn't fit into your box of logic... it stupid and wrong. That's a level of arrogance and stupidity that words can't describe.
