PERSONAL COMMENTARY
Many modern day Christians believe this concept, which has several Old Testament references and even demonstrated through the life of Judas in the New Testament, is not in the character of God.

The other day God sent two demons to my house to torment me. One was named Jesus and the other's name was Paul. I kicked both of their asses and sent them packing. I can kick any devil's ass in the name of Allah!
Explain why God sending evil spirits is not in His "character".
Evil Spirits are fallen angels, meaning they are angels who have departed from the grace of God. God does not create angels specifically to torment men, but to protect them. Angels who do not obey God do harm to mankind, either out of jealousy or purely to make mankind doubt the existence of love IN God, therefore succeeding in taking men away from God by having them curse him. Take the story of Job: Satan and God basically had a discussion, and God was bragging about how good and faithful Job was. Satan knew that like most people, all men need is a little shaking up to doubt God. TL;DR: God does not send demons, but PERMITS them to go to human beings, to test their faith in him. It's a lot like trying to test your wife for fidelity by placing hidden cameras in your home while the temptation of having another attractive male in the household presents itself. That's it. God's not some sadist, he's purely a concerned lover.
I can believe that one through experience... So many things I wanted to do but rejected all temptations to commit the acts... And then had 3 seperate dreams throughout the night that I felt released me from doubt hatred and rage, I asked for a sign before hand and I guess I got it ... During the time random ppl kept saying don't let em bring you down...
