Set up by God?

Joshua 11:19-20 No one in this region made peace with the Israelites except the Hivites of Gibeon. All the others were defeated. For the Lord hardened their hearts and caused them to fight the Israelites. So they were completely destroyed without mercy, as the Lord had commanded Moses.

PERSONAL COMMENTARY

How can the genocide be justified when it was God who "hardened their hearts and caused them to fight the Israelites" in the first place?

Once you make your choice, you make it. God gave man the freedom of choice, and once you made your word, you couldn't turn your back on it. It's an honorable thing. Man can never make up their minds, even now these days... So when God "hardens" a heart, it means he doesn't convict a person to change, because in simple terms... "They're screwed." Even in Modern Christianity Doctrine, you can lose your livelyhood with too much hesitation to do the honorable thing.

We are all actors, and your God is our playwright. He punishes us for the scenes -he- has us perform.

Also, the Bible sucks as a method of information distribution. One would think that a supposedly all knowing deity (who should have already known that Adam and Eve wouldn't cut the mustard) would have been capable of creating something a little bit better and more foolproof than a book he hired a bunch of flat-earth / rotting meat turns into flies types to pen. Star Trek and Dr. Who writers have come up with better methods and they're not all knowing all powerful super beings, so why couldn't God?
