Women cursed with painful childbirth and subjection to men

Genesis 3:16 To the woman he said,
"I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing;
with pain you will give birth to children.
Your desire will be for your husband,
and he will rule over you."

PERSONAL COMMENTARY

I wonder what the statement "you desire will be your your husband" means and why it's a curse?

the passage there, your desire will be for your husband is not meaning you will want you be with your husband, it means for his position of authority. the woman under the curse will want to rule, and its the mans position (now this is a good thing, and we can get into LONG discussions on that... but sufice it to say who ever is ruling is responsible for the failures)so the woman will want the mans ruling position, and the man will have the ruling position, so you see this played out in homes EVERYWHERE where the woman runs things and the man sheepishly hides... see how long those homes will stay together... so there is always strife in that situation... this is the curse

I'm sorry, Dave, are you trying to say that when women take charge, things break down?

The NLT has a take on this with a footnote that may answer your question - "Then he said to the woman, 'You will bear children with intense pain and suffering. And though your desire will be for your husband,* he will be your master.'"
Footnote:
* Or 'And though you may desire to control your husband.'
