Samson kills 3,000 men and women and commits suicide

Judges 16:25-30 While they were in high spirits, they shouted, "Bring out Samson to entertain us." So they called Samson out of the prison, and he performed for them.
When they stood him among the pillars, Samson said to the servant who held his hand, "Put me where I can feel the pillars that support the temple, so that I may lean against them." Now the temple was crowded with men and women; all the rulers of the Philistines were there, and on the roof were about three thousand men and women watching Samson perform. Then Samson prayed to the LORD, "O Sovereign LORD, remember me. O God, please strengthen me just once more, and let me with one blow get revenge on the Philistines for my two eyes." Then Samson reached toward the two central pillars on which the temple stood. Bracing himself against them, his right hand on the one and his left hand on the other, Samson said, "Let me die with the Philistines!" Then he pushed with all his might, and down came the temple on the rulers and all the people in it. Thus he killed many more when he died than while he lived.

PERSONAL COMMENTARY

Have you ever stopped to consider that this children story had Samson committing suicide?

The problem started when you assumed this was a children's story... :)

Like Tim said, it isn't a children's story. It's an event that actually happened. You think kids should be safeguarded against life's problems? Of course not. If you told a child that if they ran into a street, they'd be killed, or that soldiers are out killing people to "defend our country", it'd be just as violent a thing to tell them as anything out of the bible.

Also, how is sacrificing your body for the sake of killing your country/people's enemies suicide when it's as much patriotism as it is for America's soldiers to do the same?

Yeah, nothing wrong with telling a story about one man toppling two pillars and killing 3000 in the name of his God. Oh goodness. This sounds awfully familiar.

Samson wasn't a good guy. But nobody is. And everyone who died that day deserves a whole lot worse than being crushed by stones. All unbelievers will have their part in the lake of fire which burns forever, where there is no rest day or night. We have all sinned against the infinitely Holy God of all creation. We deserve much worse than death by stone.

A story to tell! said...

If this happenned today and one of our soldiers serving in Afghanistan did this. They would not be classified as a terrorist but would be called a War Hero and given Medals if Honor for their service. No different...the Philistines were the ISIS of Ancient times, they were the enemy!!!
