If you curse your parents, you must be put to death

Exodus 21:17 Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death.

PERSONAL COMMENTARY

Do you think this is a bit extreme?

Jesus serves this one up to the old pharisees in Mark 7. Worth another try?

The Israelites didn't seem to have a problem with it.

This isn't cursing as in "F*** you, mom!" This is cursing as in defamation of your parents' health. Also, Jesus dealt with this, like Epiphanist said. Men follow tradition rather than God because tradition is something they're trained to repeat, and having already adapted to it, they enact it even to extremist lengths. They judged others by laws given to THEM, not everyone. God favored Israel because he promised their ancestor Abraham he would expand them into a large nation, so Israel was supposed to follow the law of God so he could. Throughout the OT, Israel did whatever they wanted at certain times, because being obedient is hard for many people to do. So they lost out on things that could've made them almost as strong as America, if not stronger.

I love watching Christians fall over themselves trying to explain all the crazy passages in the bible. You Christians don't realize the very simple, empirical facts that if you were born in India, you would most likely be a Hindu; if you were born in Pakistan, you would most likely be a Muslim; if you were born 2000 years ago, you would most likely be a Pagan. In that latter case, there's no way you could have possibly been a Christian. Wow. Just try to find some common sense.

Yeah, but isn't cursing your parents rather extreme, too? Plus, I think you'll find similar commands in other ancient law literature-like for example the code of hammurapi. Been a while since I took Ancient History so I could have my sources confused.

YASHUA said to the pharisees and scribes.he who speaks evil of their parents he or she shall be put to DEATH. That is his LAW wether we like it or not. Although i do think the break down of the family and dead beat dads and moms. have certainly contributed to this evil as well as the music and entertainment industry and the fact that we do not practise biblical law anymore. If we had the laws in practice of the Bible most of this evil and most mental affiction addiction would not even be a reality.
